About Out of the Black
Out of the Black is a Folk song written and composed by singer-songwriter Tiki Black. It incorporates exotic sounds reminiscent of the thousand and one arabian nights and of North African riffs, subtly provided by a mixture of Western (cello) and West African (ngoni) strings and giving it its New yet Fusion Folk vibe. It’s the title track and the fourth song on Out Of The Black, the debut album by Tiki Black.
Out of the Black Lyrics
Verse
Pain sharpens the blade of her knife
And swims my vein to twist each wound in my life
Some pills dive in my soul to diffuse her rile
And to bribe each grin into a smile
Their chase rides on my nerve and crawls right within
I’d scratch their itch but it’s not good for my skin
So I sprinkle some of my spice out of its rack
And I sneeze their insolence out of the Black
Verse 2. Fear crouches in the marrow of my spine
And sends her shiver crawling up and down its line
Each tribe erects its rules and chants on my stage
To tame my wild heart back inside a cage
Those bars are narrowing my vision, my choice
I’d scream them down but it’s not good for my voice
So I dig a hole right through all of that flack
And I express myself out of the Black
Bridge. My soul is crackling her chrysalis
My ghosts will soon meet their nemesis
Each layer peels off and there appears
Out of the Black a breath of fresh air
Verse 3/Outro. Pain sharpens the blade of her knife
And swims my vein to twist each wound in my life
Some pills dive in my soul just to pat her back
And to bribe each grin out of the Black
